Polyvaks EKO PVA - liquid separation agent for moulds, gelcoate and polyester resins

Polyvaks EKO PVA is a liquid separation agent based on polyvinyl alcohol, designed to form a continuous film between the surface of the mould and the applied material. The PVA film offers an additional level of safety when emulating, especially when working with new moulds, repaired moulds or surfaces where there is a higher risk of adherence.

The product is the economic variant of the Polyvaks PVA range and is recommended for applications with polyester resins and gelcoat. It is used together with a wax-based demoulding agent, previously applied to the mould.

Recommended method of application

  1. Clean the mould and remove traces of dust, dirt or demoulding agent.
  2. Apply the WAX 200L demoulding agent according to product instructions and let the layer dry properly.
  3. Apply Polyvaks EKO PVA uniformly over the entire surface using a sponge, a suitable brush or spray system.
  4. Avoid product leaks and accumulations in corners, cavities or deep areas.
  5. Let the film dry completely for about 12-20 minutes.
  6. Continue with the application of the gelcoate or resin casting only after complete disappearance of the wet appearance.

Drying PVA film

Under normal conditions, the manufacturer recommends a drying time of approximately 12-20 minutes. Time can be influenced by layer thickness, mould geometry, temperature and air circulation.

The drying can be accelerated by heating the mould at 40- 50 ° C or by placing it in an area with good air circulation.

Do not apply gelcoate or resin over a moist film.

Practical advantages

  • forms a physical separation film;
  • offers additional safety at the first demulations;
  • is suitable for applications with gelcoat and polyester resins;
  • can be applied manually or by spraying;
  • the remaining film after the removal is removed with water;
  • the colour of the product helps to track the surface cover;
  • is positioned by the manufacturer as the economic variant of agent PVA.

Common

Conclusion

Polivaks EKO PVA is an economic solution for forming an additional separation film in polyester resin and gelcoat applications. It is especially recommended for new, repaired or high-risk moulds, where its use over a layer of WAX 200L can increase the safety of the demoulding process.

Uniform application, avoidance of accumulation and complete drying of film are essential for achieving a correct result.

Important limitations and recommendations

  • Do not pour the product directly into the mould cavities.
  • Apply a thin and uniform layer.
  • PVA accumulations require a longer drying time and may affect the surface appearance.
  • Continue the process only after complete drying of the film.
  • Perform a preliminary test under actual working conditions, especially on a new, repaired or unknown mould.
  • Keep the product away from flames, sparks and other sources of ignition.

Storage

Keep the product in the original container, well closed, in a dry and dark place, at a temperature between 5 ° C and 20 ° C

Protect the flame vessel, sparks, equipment that can produce sparks and other sources of ignition. Do not smoke in the storage or use area. For stock management, the FIFO principle is recommended: the first product entered is the first product used.

Frequently asked questions

What is Polivaks EKO PVA?

Polivaks EKO PVA is a liquid solution based on polyvinyl alcohol, with IPA solvent, which forms after drying a physical separation film. This film acts as a barrier between the mould and the piece, reducing direct contact between the two surfaces.

During a correct demoulding, the PVA film must remain on the piece obtained. After removing the piece, the film can be easily removed by washing with water.

When is use recommended?
  • for the first uses of a new mould;
  • on moulds which have been repaired or reconditioned;
  • in applications considered at higher risk of adherence;
  • when pouring polyester resins;
  • prior to application of a gelcoat;
  • when an additional safety film is required over the demoulding wax layer.
  • for the first uses of a new mould;
  • when pouring polyester resins;
  • prior to application of a gelcoat;
Why is the PVA used together with a wax removal?

The demoulding wax prepares the surface of the mould and forms the first anti-adhesive layer. Polivaks EKO PVA is applied over dry wax and forms a separate, visible film between the mould and the cast material.

The combination is especially useful for new or repaired moulds, where a release problem can damage both the piece and the surface of the mould.

In the Best TOOLS system, the recommended complementary product is WAX 200L demoulding agentbased on liquid wax.

What does it say where the film remains after the removal?

According to the manufacturer's instructions, the PVA film must remain on the uneven track. If the film remains on the mould, this may indicate that the previously applied wax layer has not been properly produced or has not uniformly covered the surface.

In this situation, clean the mould and check the application process of the demoulding agent before the next use.

Polivaks EKO PVA replace the demoulding wax?

No, not replace it, EKO PVA is the recommended product for new or high-risk lipid moulds. Polivaks EKO PVA is designed for use with a previously applied demoulding wax. (ex: WAX 200L).

What order does WAX 200L and Polivaks EKO PVA apply?

For the demoulding system described on this page, WAX 200L is first applied to the mould. After preparing and drying the wax layer, apply the film Polivaks EKO PVA.

How long should we let the product dry?

The manufacturer recommends about 12-20 minutes. The application of the material should be started only after the complete disappearance of the wet appearance on the surface of the mould.

Can I speed up the drying?

Yeah. The mould can be heated to 40-50 ° C or placed in an area with good air circulation.

Why shouldn't it be produced in the corners of the mould?

Accumulations of cavities and corners dry harder. A thick layer can prolong the process and influence the surface aspect of the piece.

How to remove PVA film?

The film remaining on the piece or on the mould can be removed by washing with water.

What does it mean if the film stays on the mould?

It may indicate an inadequate or uneven application of the previous wax layer. The mould must be cleaned, and the demoulding system reapplied and checked.

How should the product be stored?

Keep the product in the original container, well closed, in a dry and dark place, at a temperature between 5 ° C and 20 ° C

Protect the flame vessel, sparks, equipment that can produce sparks and other sources of ignition. Do not smoke in the storage or use area. For stock management, the FIFO principle is recommended: the first product entered is the first product used.
